Negotiating a Raise - When, Where and How

(If working with Vencer Group; all compensation inquiries or requests should be directed to us)

  • Contract renewal time is the best time to negotiate a raise.  Before this time it is very difficult, from the point of view of departmental and project budgets, to change a contract that is currently in place.  Contract renewal time is also where we get information from the client regarding your performance to date and your potential contributions to future projects at the company, so they are more open to the idea that you may merit a higher pay rate.

  • Consider negotiating a raise when your responsibilities or role changes significantly. Please be aware that any significant changes to your role must be done at the contractual level between Vencer and the Client, at which time we will seek the best value for you and the client.

  • In any case, be prepared to back up your request for a raise. Be prepared to review your current responsibilities and enhancements to your skills.

  • Think ahead of time about what types of compensation you are willing to accept.  More money may simply not be possible. However, other changes may be possible such as more training , more advantageous/flexible hours, more vacation time, or access to desirable projects or technologies.
