Why the category, not the badge
There is no shortage of awards. Most of them rank companies on revenue growth, marketing, or how many vendor logos fit on a slide. This one is different in a way that matters to our clients: an independent industry panel evaluated MSPs specifically on how they serve the oil and gas & energy industry. Field sites. Cyber posture. Cross-border integrations. M&A. The line between OT and IT. AI on the operational side, where the threat model is nothing like the office.
That is the work we take pride in excelling at. Being recognized for it by people who understand it is an amazing feeling.
Two environments, one engagement
Oil and gas IT is really two businesses under one roof, and most IT shops only understand one of them.
Head office is where the corporate stack lives: identity, security, backup, email, the finance systems, the M&A data room when a deal is on. Our job there is to make all of it run so quietly that the finance team, the executives and the engineers never think about IT at all. Boring by design. That is what good looks like.
The field is where the money is made. Crews on remote sites, equipment that does not care about your patch schedule, connectivity that comes and goes, and a workforce whose needs look nothing like corporate staff. We put real effort into understanding what drives an operator's business, and most of the time the answer is out there in the field...
We have excelled in taking both sides seriously in the same engagement.
What the work looks like
I've highlighted a few projects & services that have set us apart from other MSPs over the last year. This is just the surface, but an example of what we do differently.
Cross-border M&A. A Calgary operator acquired producing assets overseas: multiple field sites, multiple jurisdictions, an environment with very little protecting it. We built the security baseline from scratch, set up a co-managed model with the team on the ground, shipped hardware to site, and merged everything onto one platform while respecting the data-residency rules that govern field data in that country. All of it inside the buyer's operating window. The deal closed on time, and nobody in the field noticed IT was involved.
The field. We protect crews with endpoint controls that hold up in the conditions on a work site, and we price it for a workforce where half the payroll is on site. A field user does not need, and should not pay for, the same seat as a corporate user. Getting that pricing right is the difference between an operator protecting the whole crew and an operator protecting the office and hoping that their IT in the field never becomes a problem while it is left alone.
Head office. Security, identity, backup and the rest of the corporate stack, run 24/7 from a NOC/SOC housed and staffed in Calgary. Live response to critical vulnerabilities the day they are disclosed. The kind of work that only gets noticed when it is not done. Ensuring that this work aligns with supporting actual business drivers is important, and we can't effectively manage the field IT if the foundation isn't carefully supported.
What is next

Winners are announced December 9 at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. Our founder James and I will be there. Two IT guys from Calgary in tuxedos at the venue that hosts the Golden Globes. Rob Lowe and David Spade are headlining, and I am told neither will be taking questions about SCADA segmentation.
Whatever happens in December, the work that got us on the list is the work we do every day for operators who stuck with us through a downturn and kept us when it turned around. That is the delivery team's work. The award happens to have my name on it. The engineers know whose it really belongs to.
