Electronic Records Secured
for Receivers and Custodians
When a receiver is appointed, the debtor's email, files and accounting data are at risk from the first hour. Former staff still have access, providers keep deleting on schedule, and devices go missing. We lock it down, preserve what is there and hand it to you in a form that holds up.
Who we work with
Licensed Insolvency Trustees acting as receivers, interim receivers and CCAA monitors, court-appointed custodians and inspectors, and the counsel who instruct them.
What We Do
Four things,
in order.
Lock down.
Take control of administrator accounts, revoke former staff and vendor access, and set litigation holds so nothing is deleted after the order.
Preserve.
Forensically sound, hash-verified images of laptops, servers and cloud accounts.
Recover and extract.
Email, file shares and accounting data, including accounts regained through provider processes backed by the order.
Hand over.
Secure transfer to the receiver, purchaser or counsel, with a chain-of-custody log recording what was collected, when and by whom.

and area.

A scope and estimate in writing before any work starts.
Lock down.
Admin control, access revoked, litigation holds set.

Report.
A collection summary and custody log to the receiver, updated as more comes in.
Why Vencer
One team,
order to handover.
Most forensic firms image the drives and leave. We are also a managed IT provider, so we can keep the debtor's systems running while you sell the business, carve them out cleanly to the buyer, or wind them down with certified disposal. One team from the order to the final handover.
19 years in Calgary. 30+ M&A transactions, including asset sales in receivership. Zero breaches in 11 years.

Missing items are fine;
we work from what you have.
- The order, or the draft if it has not been granted yet
- Devices surrendered or known, and where they are
- Known providers: domain, Microsoft 365 or Google, accounting software, file storage
- A contact for the debtor's principal or former IT provider, if you have one
- Any deadlines set by the court
Scope, Billing and Exclusions
Time and materials
or retainer.
We typically engage on receivership work under a time and materials or retainer agreement.
A single appointment.
Time and materials suits a single appointment: a written scope and estimate, then the work, billed as it is done.
Recurring files.
A retainer suits receivers and firms with recurring files, because terms are agreed in advance and we can start the moment an order is granted.
Receivership FAQ
Common questions about receivership IT support
How fast can you mobilise after an order is granted?
We respond the same day you call. In Calgary and the surrounding area, we are on site within 24 hours of the order being granted. Elsewhere in Alberta, we are on site within three business days, with travel costs approved by the receiver in advance. Cloud lockdown and litigation holds start remotely within 24 hours wherever the debtor is.
What if the debtor won't cooperate or credentials are missing?
We work with the receiver and counsel to go directly to the email, cloud and accounting providers, using the court order to regain access. Everything we collect is imaged, hash-verified and logged so the record stands on its own.
Can you keep systems running while the receiver sells the business?
Yes. We can run the debtor's IT on an interim basis through the sale, then separate it cleanly for the buyer or wind it down.
What happens to the data after handover?
Images and extracted records go to the receiver on encrypted media or by secure transfer. We keep or destroy our working copies as the receiver directs and confirm it in writing.
How do you charge for receivership work?
Usually on time and materials or a retainer agreement. Either way, you get a written scope and estimate first, and our time records support the receiver's fee approval.
Do you work outside Calgary?
Yes. On site within three business days anywhere in Alberta, with travel costs approved in advance. Cloud-hosted records can be secured remotely from day one, wherever they sit.
